The picture is very small, but I would guess Rhombic Egg Eater.
And God has Created every animal from water, of them are some creeping on their bellies, some walk on two legs, and some on four. God Creates what He wills, for sure God has Power over all things. (Noble Quran 24:45)

Thanks for getting back to me!

I live on a farm just outside Pretoria.

Unfortunately, my workers are instructed if they cannot positively identify a snake a non-poisonous, they are to destroy it. I would like to mention that a sincere effort was made to try and identify the snake as non-poisonous, my workers identified the snake as similar to a "wipneus-nagadder"
Image.

Since most of the snakes on the farm are either Bush Cobra, or Rinkhals, the former being much more prevalent - we cannot be too careful. I apologize if the image was upsetting. We only resort to these measures if they are in the immediate vicinity of people/buildings.

It's strange that such as snake would be in the area, it's not their natural habitat.

Still it doesnt mean you have to kill if you leave the snake alone it will leave you alone.

Snakes get killed all over the country countless times a day.
Some are killed out of ignorance and others fear.

This is an easily mistake to make between the species.
Crucify people who doing so when they try seek information is a little short sighted.

At least the poster now knows what the snake is and hopefully they can pass on information to the ground staff.

What a pity. Harmless toothless snake.

The workers would not know a wipneus nagadder if it was hanging off their noses. They do not occur anywhere near Pretoria.

Well even I thought it was a poisonous snake, as the image in my snake book, looked nothing like the snake in question, as you can see for yourself: Image

It was an honest mistake, at the time, the image in the book looked nothing like the snake. I thought at most, it could be a adolescent bush cobra - again, I didn't know they have same skin colours and patterns from adolescence.

I'll be sure to live and let live next time, I can't recall in 24 years that we've ever had a snake like this. Most of the time, it's a dangerous snake - I remember several months ago, in winter, we came across a nest of bush cobra's, a mother (assuming) and several young - lying between layers of slasto. Again, I know they are shy creatures, and very docile - yet, for the safety of our pets and people, they had to be done away with.

I did my research on snake repellents - if they truly existed, I would've used 'em. We don't actively seek out and destroy snakes.

Being just outside Pretoria Im sure you will have a few guys who would be happy to come remove some snakes if you feel they pose a threat. Get the contact details of someone willing to come out and keep the number handy for the next time you come across something venomous or difficult to identify.

I agree with "Hoss" there are more than enough persons willing to remove and relocate any snake from your farm/porperty to where they will be no harm to others and will come to no harm.

Please call them and make arrangements before another snake is killed for nothning. Most of the guys will do it free of charge as well.
