Kruger Snake ID

Postby bradmiller » Fri Jan 27, 2012 10:52 pm

Was driving from Phabeni gate towards Sukuza and saw this fellow trying to get across the road.
I blocked the entire road to try and give the guy a chance but the silly thing kept going backwards and forwards on the same patch of tar.
He eventually got the idea and moved off onto the other side of the road.
Much to everyone's delight as they could now pass.

Not sure what it is - these type of snake are not my forté... it was quite large about 40-50cm
a mate of mine said its a stiletto snake but I disagree I think its a Schlegel's beaked blind snake (Rhinotyphlops schlegelii) anyone else agree?

You know, you can touch a stick of dynamite, but if you touch a venomous snake it’ll turn around and bite you and kill you so fast it’s not even funny.

I also found one in the Kruger park on the way back to the Kruger gate. I did jump out to move it and had another car stop. I showed it to them and then let it go in the bush. The tar was boiling hot and this snake was crossing it in broad daylight. Very strange.

This was a hot day too even though it was still fairly early.
I got into cr@p once moving a chameleon off the road. A ranger in a private car found me outside the vehicle, so I stay inside my car and just block the road.
