Worm Lizard Monopeltis

Worm Lizard Monopeltis

Postby Warren Klein » Fri May 25, 2012 4:52 pm

Well, this is a first for me. While digging trenches for irrigation we un- earthed this Worm lizard Monopeltis sp. I recognized this animal from books but I have to admit, I thought it was a big earth worm when I first laid eyes on this weird herp. Found about 30cm underground on my property in Warmbaths/ Bela- Bela Limpopo in sand veld habitat. Any ideas about the species?

Once again something I have never seen. I wonder how often we miss the younger ones because they just look like earthworms. Thanks for taking the pics and sharing it.

Your welcome BV, it was the first one I have ever seen in the flesh myself but as you say we may have passed them by without noticing before.

Thanks Adriaan, according to distribution I would agree with M. infuscata
