What yellow-brown snake is this?

Hi,

Please tell me what kind of snake this is.

It was found just outside my house in the mountains near Stanford, Western Cape. Although you can't see it from the pictures, it looked a bit like the snake had two small horns on the back of its head.




Your help will be appreciated.

Looks like a Red lip snake Crotaphopeltis hotamboeia to me. If it has horns, you may have found a new species

The name is confusing because the ones down in the Western Cape do not have red lips,but yes Red Lip /Herold same thing, Crotaphopeltis hotamboeia

As for the antlers I mention, I think its just the way the head looks when its flattened-out, like so:

Looks like a kudu with those horns.

Yes they like to put on a real show ,making their heads flat and striking out .

The "horns" are just the edges of the skull. which has been flattened. Herald snakes do this when they are scared or upset.
