Postby Yolanda Petzer » Sat Mar 24, 2012 11:31 am

Hi,

As my daughter runs around the yard alot and I am petrified of snakes I would like to know what type of snake this is?? I have had my scares with snakes and once almost stood on a green mamba, and how i did not get bitten I dont know?? Thanks to whoever can get back to me on this or they can email me on yolanda@agk.co.za. Thanks so much to whoever can help with this!!

Looks like a Corn Snake to me?

Next time call someone instead of endangering yourselfs. The firemen , police and various people on this forum will be able to make an callout within minutes.
Keep your eye on it until someone arrives and please do not play Rambo with snakes. They are not as fast as in the movies and they are not all dangerous. I find about 20 non-venomous snakes before encountering a venomous one so chances are good you will overeact 95% of the time.
If I'm gonna be an old, lonely man, I'm gonna need a thing, you know, a hook, like that guy on the subway who eats his own face. So I figure I'll be Crazy Man with a Snake, y'know. Crazy Snake Man. And I'll get more snakes, call them my babies, kids won't walk past my place, they will run. "Run away from Crazy Snake Man, " they'll shout!”

Thanks all, for the reply, it must have been ones of the neighbours snakes?? They should look after them better if it is a pet!! Unfortunately my parents not knowing what type it was did not want to take chances as they had not wanted to kill the snake, and feel a bit bad that it is harmless! They did not know who to call late in the evening to help with it?? Have a good weekend and thanks again.

Ja jong it is a tricky situation. You want to protect your life and at the same time kill the snake. Next time choose the first option . Stand back ,assess the situation and make the call.

Quick question; If the neighbours have snakes would in not have been possible to maybe call them and ask them if they had any idea of what type of snake it was?
