Here are some pics at 9 weeks :) You can see the hind legs now - they look like mini adults. As soon as the hind legs are fully developed, they'll count as juveniles and not larvae :D They're eating frozen bloodworm and frozen brine shrimp at this point.

Amazing little creatures. They must be very interesting and fascinating to keep.

Glad to see they are healthy and growing fast.

Looking good!

@predator678 - They really are fascinating to keep, and I think they're totally cute as well :D
@shadowfoot - They eat a cube of frozen food in a sitting, whether bloodworm or brine shrimp, either once or twice a day. I bought frozen Daphnia for them as well but they don't seem so keen on that.

Here's a video still of them at 11 weeks, taken now. They'll be 12 weeks on tuesday :) I will also edit and upload the video soon.

They LOVE to eat, but they're incapable of differentiating between bloodworms and axolotl feet! D: Lucky for them, they grow back lost limbs. They're all in a 60L tank now to give them some more space. They have fully formed front and back legs, so they're juveniles now, not larvae :D My little babies are growing up :')

LOL, I have one that always bites the other foot when it is feeding time, I have started feeding them in separate corners.

They seem to get growth spurts and just shoot up in Size form week to week.

I'm actually planning to build a bigger tank for my three tomorrow.

They are really starting to look like little salamanders now. Very cute. Keep the photos coming - I'm finding it really fascinating seeing them progress.

@tranzoid - Yup, they have been since the 70's. Doesn't make them illegal to keep though, only to sell/buy. So are Platannas, and almost every other amphibian you can think of. Also, I don't care about the blacklist - I am a responsible pet keeper and I'm not going to go releasing them into the wild or anything.
@Marion - will do!
@fastback - Typical axies :P They're like platannas - just eat anything that fits in their mouth if they can smell food!

I agree with Marion, keep them coming! Love this thread! They are truly amazing animals. I am really keen on keeping some one day. Especially after this thread. How common are they? From the thread it seems that there are quite a few?

@Groenslang - They really are amazing, and are quite comical too! Last night I watched one of mine swim upside down along the tank bottom, vacuuming up food as he went :D And they're not common in the pet trade in South Africa because they're on the blacklist. If you know where to look though, you can find them.
