Bali Indonesia

Postby Kev » Fri Jan 11, 2013 7:25 pm

So I just got back form my honeymoon with my better half.
We spent a few weeks in Bali and loved it.
Bali is a wonderful country with loads to see and if any one is ever going there they should defiantly get in touch with the Bail reptile rescue guys they were awesome.
The only drawback I had was that both my torches died within a couple days, it may have had something to do with the humidity? I had tons of batteries but that was not the problem. I also could not find a good torch there for love or money so that sucked, but anyhow.
This is the list of herps we found and then some pictures, hope you enjoy.

Asian Brown Treefrog (Polypedates leucomystax)
White-lipped Frog (Rana chalconota)
Asian Eyebrow-ridge Toad (Bufo melanostictus)
Green Turtle (Chelonia mydas)
Great Crested Canopy Lizard (Bronchocela jubata)
Gliding Lizard (Draco sp) –not sure which one
Flat-tailed Gecko (Cosymbotus platyurus)
Tamarind Forest Gecko (Cyrtodactylus fumosus)
Tokay (Gekko gecko)
Asian House gecko (Hemidactylus frenatus)
Common Sun Skink (Eutropis multifasciata)
Asian Water Monitor (Varanus salvator)
Reticulated Python (Python reticulatus)
Green Vine Snake (Ahaetulla prasina)
Keeled Slug-eater (Pareas carinatus) –at Bali reptile rescue due for release
Malayan Krait (Bungarus candidus) –black phase
Southern Indonesian Spitting Cobra (Naja sputatrix) –at Bali reptile rescue due for release
Painted Brozeback (Dendrelaphis pictus)
White-lipped Pitviper (Trimeresurus albolabris insularis) –at Bali reptile rescue due for release
Mangrove Snake (Boiga dendrophils)

Some spiders

This one look very much like the ants in that area, thought it possibly used this look to draw ants in for a meal?

Some of these guys were massive
Image

This spider had the same body shape of a widow and also had the red under belly although not the hour glass shape but it was also huge.
The little brown male nearby was about the size of the females we get in SA. She was about as wide as a 5c piece.

Some interesting finds!
I think it's truly a unique feeling to find the animals in their natural habitat after seeing them comercially in shops.

Really cool!
Thanks

Could not agree more. As common as they are in the pet trade, finding a White-lip Tree Viper in the wild would've done it for me. Everything else would just be a bonus :smt023

Thanks for the comments guys.
It was fantastic and exciting to find a wild retic even though we see them all the time.
There were two separate retics and both looked like they had been through the wars... lots of scars.
@ Andy yes they are all wild finds except the Kamodo, that was at the Bali bird park.
Most of the snakes were found at night along a river that runs through the rice paddies and is frindged by dence vegitation.

Well done.
