Call out 2013/01/26

Got this beauty on a call out today from Bushbaby and Bushviper. Got to the residence Ribbon str, Orchards, Pretoria and was directed to a wendy house with a lot of boxes and stuff lying infront of it. Aparently someone had thrown out everything without even checking the inside of the open boxes! Initially the snake was spotted as the occupants of the residents had been moving pieces of concrete aswell as concrete blocks. The snake raced into the wendy and was returning to the door but could not make it out before they shut the door. Checked the inside which had had some remaining contents but it had obviously vacated. Unfortunatley the back and side of the wendy also had a lot of concrte pieces behind it and on the sides. If it had gone out through the gaps there it would have been lost. I asked the people if anyone had been watching the door after it had been shut? Luckily not and there was hope still. There had been gaps in the door and either the snake had been hiding in one of the boxes or it had simply exited the front and curled up under a low sided box containing some shoes. We started checking boxes and carried them back inside. My wife found it and the chase was on for about 5min before actually catching it, which is quite hard within dried up tall grass.

Nice catch :).

I found one about 3 weeks ago, but couldn't get it as it sailed through the grass at lightning speed.

Nice short snouted grass snake.
