Curling scales

Curling scales

Postby rabolongo » Sun Feb 17, 2013 7:42 pm

I got my Alino Burm @ last years Expo

When we got home we found that he had a severe mite investation and noticed that some of his scales were curling backwards.

With the mites gone and 4 sheds later the scales looked normal

Aziru had a shed today and i noticed scales thats lifted again.... :smt017

What can cause scales to lift and curl backwards ? There is nothing in the enclosure that I can suspect of causing this as everything is smooth, lights are covered, no mites and he is in good health.

Are the lifted scales in isolated areas, or all over his body?

Sometimes if snakes lie in a certain position for a long time the scales will curl back in the bends. I sometimes find it in my Green Trees.

It is isolated spots only

Actually checked him now and saw two of the three areas are actually on the bend of the body.

Never thought it can be caused by the body contour, as i never seen it on any of my other snakes. Thanks guys

Can this occurance also be becauce of "soft scales" due to a lack of minerals ?

Definitely not due to a deficiency.

I've seen it mostly in Boas and Pythons, but it occurs in all snakes.

Nothing to worry about.

Thanks Westley

Worry when it comes to my Animals. lol

Had my hands full with him from the start and sorted out most of his issues along the way. Now the only thing is to get him to calm down, he is a nippy little bugger

but

has calmed down a lot the last month since i try and handle him a few times a day. Dont want a grumpy fully grown Python wrapping around me any time soon. hahahaha
