I can't i.d this little guy.

I found this little guy on my step last night. its only 15 to 20cm long its slow moving. Last night was cold and wet. Please see if you can help me i.d it. It was found in Lambazi bay northen Transkei coast.

I stand corrected, but my guess is a wolf snake.

Looks like one of the wolf snakes maybe the Cape or Pygmy wolf snake.

No, not a Wolf Snake, I don't know distribution but looks like Natal Black Snake.

Yip not a Wolf snake but I also think Natal black snake.

Definately not a wolf snake, reckon natal black snake too. That iridescent purply blue sheen is so distictive. I wish I had those guys just chilling on my stoep. I'm lucky if I get a raucus toad on my stoep...
I would suggest not touching it either, they are somewhat venomous. I don't think their venom has been studied as much as some of the more common venemous snakes.

i picked it up carefully due to the fact not knowing what it was. i dont have pics of the tail due to the fact that it was firmly wrapped around my little finger. the tail is a slender longish tail

Then probably a natal black or possibly purple gloss sp. they all look so simillar... nice snake.
