I'm not used to this! (extreme smell)

Postby peter120886 » Mon Dec 09, 2013 6:55 pm

Hi all! I am once again looking for some advice... I have recently taken in an adult female texas ratsnake, she wasnt in the best of shape when I took her over, damage on her head and damage on her body from getting caught in the extractor fan that was fitted to her rather neglected and putrid enclosure! but I digress... the injuries are not serious and she shed yesterday without difficulty, however my issue is with her excrement, it just does not look like any of my other snakes excrement and it SERIOUSLY stinks! this seems a little disgusting, but below is a picture of the latest output. please let me know if this is normal for some animals to have such yellow and stinking defecate, or is this a sign of parasitic infestation or something else...

I agree, that does not look good. Hopefully someone with experience in this area who can help you will wander by.

Hi Snakesitter. That is diarhoea caused by infection or parasites.A Vet needs to do a faecal flotation to look for various parasites. In the meantime it should have antibiotic injections at least.A parasite flush should be done when it has recovered.
Too cold an environment can start this off as well.Increase temps to 30 Celcius.

Thanks for the feedback gents! I will send the next stool off to be tested, in the meantime I have raised the ambient temperature to 30 deg as suggested.
shall wait and see what the tests reveal.
