Limpopo field herping 2015-2016 season - Saurians

Postby Ruan Stander » Thu Jun 09, 2016 3:38 pm

I've been rather quiet on the forum due to working and studying, but I was fortunate to spend some quality time in the field this season. Here are some of the lizards, geckos and chameleons from all over the province, mainly central, northern and eastern Limpopo.

Homopholis wahlbergii, Wahlberg's velvet gecko-Mokopane. I've had a comment that it is H. arnoldi, if anyone can provide some clarity I will welcome it.

Lygodactylus graniticolus, granite dwarf day gecko-Mokopane. This is quite a special gecko and was a first for me, as it is only known from the Percy Fyfe and Witvinger nature resrves and surrounding area.

Great photos and a great variety of finds!

Aaron Bauer was here in Namibia last year and he mentioned they are working on P. punctatus and there might be up to 6 species in there waiting to be described. Exciting stuff.

Nice rizards Ruan. Homopholis arnoldi have quite a bold pattern, like the one on my avatar.

Nice shots!

Thanks Ryan. Yes that's it, and if I'm not mistaken H. arnoldi is restricted to the more northern parts of Limpopo.

It is a special gecko indeed Fooble. I enjoy Lygodactylus in general and I'm particularly fond of stevensoni.

dasie, the snakes are coming ;)

Stunning photos and great finds.
I have to say that the common flap neck remains one of my favourite reptiles.
There is something that is much more scarce, something finer by far , something rarer than ability.
