One of our East African Gaboons gave birth last week. All in all she had 32 live and 7 dead. The babies are gorgeous!

Congrats!!! You dont see this often.

That striped one looks awsome. It will pair up nicely with the striped one Mike Perrys got.

Chantel thats really impressive. I hope you have offered them food already. These guys eat within hours of being born.

Were the sex ratios favourable?

Do you have an idea of prices if you decide to get rid of any?

Have to agree with you the babies are gorgeous. Congrats.

Wow! That is excellent! Please show us more pics of them once they have shed and dried out. Congrats, this is good news for the species.

Thanks for the compliments. Chantel will take some more pics soon. They all shed within hours of being born, and I'll be feeding them soon. I have another female that's about to drop - any minute!

Regards,
Gavin

Sorry about old stories but - when I was working with Ionides in the Mrwara region of Tanzania we found a couple of big male gabbies in thickets that were of the same striped phase.

I needed shots of gabbies giving birth for me book, bugger!

I ain't that bloody old!!!!! I am officially a pensioner though 65 going on 30 so to speak.

I have happy memories of Mtwara; gaboons were very common and some of the biggest N.nigricollis I have ever seen.

Other happy places included Kakamega, W.Kenya,
2 species of bush viper, gabbies, rhino vipers, jameson's, gold's. etc. etc. Regrets - never seen a B.worthingtoni, or M.hindii, or A.desaixi in the wild - still not too late.

Congratulations Chantel & Gavin... I've been waiting in anticipation for these photos!! Love the striped one. It's stunning!!

Please send me a pm about costs ;) I think BV might like a pair. lol

How big is that female, if I may ask. I would like to one day breed mine, but probably only in two years time.
