I use fine bark chips.

I use a small fishtank with a mesh top. I place a small 12v halogen reflector lamp with it's transformer on the mesh. It works fine for now. Will have to see when they grow to big for the tanks.

I use kombuis towel or newspaper. I don't like using loose substrates at all for Veiled's. Here's a pic of my enclosure as I was setting it up...I'll try and get an updated one sometime with all the leaves/branches/vines in there!

I used to have a pair of veiled chameleons,
I used newspaper covered up with bark chips as a substrate.
This made a great display.
Only make sure the crickets don't run free, as the chameleons might accidentaly "shoot" and actually eat a bark chip.
It looks much nicer than newspaper though.

Cheers

Not For Vieled's but i also use "fine Beardie" Sand others i use larger barkchips.
All comes down to what works best for you.
Personally i think newspaper just doesn't look nice for something like Chameleons.
Organized crime comes in more forms than one.

I built my own enclosure.
1m x 0.5m x 1m.
Wooden frame and solid top and bottom, the front is clear perspex and then the other sides are shade cloth.
I have green carpet as a substrate, and use the vacume cleaner on it every now and then.
