Leo laid eggs!

Leo laid eggs!

Postby Leos r gr8 » Thu Oct 04, 2007 5:44 pm

Hi everybody!

Around an hour ago, my female leo laid her first clutch! She layed the eggs in a corner of her laying chamber and piled all of the vermiculite from everywhere in the tub on them, she was looking a little like an Ethiopian after laying! She took 12 adult crickets and the next clutch is already visible.

I put the eggs in the incubator and set it to 28 degrees celcius, how long will it take for them to hatch?

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

45-70 Days. The higher your temps, the faster they will hatch. Remember that the sex is temperature dependant though. I have some simmering in the incubator as well.

I guess that the length will be towards the longer side, Shame the female that laid the eggs is back in the empty laying box guarding her eggs, she doesn't know that they aren't there...How long will it take her to get over this and stop guarding "ghost eggs"?

Thanks Serpy, I hope you have loads of luck too! I noticed one thing, and I don't know if this could help you but she refused to work on her laying sight in the light so I blocked the windows in her cage, I think she felt more secure in the dark...

Congratulations Liam, that's awesome!! I have found that at that temp it takes between 60 to 65 days to hatch. Candle them in a weeks time, if they glow pink, they are fertile. Will be holding thumbs for you! She will stop guarding after about a day. Its normal!

Is that not a bit discriminating towards women?

Hi All...
I've had my Leo's for about 3 weeks now, still very green at all this. One of my females emptied all the nesting material out of her nest last night? Does this mean i'm gonna be a dad?
I don't want to disturb her and check what's happening in there...

that or she's one of crazy neat freaks ;)

lift her up and check her underside,if she is gravid you'll see one or two pinkish oblong shapes near her "stomach"

don't worry about disturbing her it won't affect her she'll do what she needs to do anyway.(laying eggs or not)
good luck
