Lifes cruel twist..not much more to be said. This is what I found when I entered my snake room just a short time ago. I imagine it has something to do with her giving birth.

Wow that is a dreadful loss. I know you do not feel up to doing an autopsy but I do believe there is either something torn or stuck inside her.

Possibly the sex ratios on the babies is in your favour and that the project does not end here.

Please accept my condolences!

Oh that is tough, but appears no sign of internal bleeding. Do you know her age Al? it was a fair-size litter.

Ouch!, I feel your pain Al, maybe do a dissection to try find out how she died.

She was CB05...I obtained her from a friend when she was a month or two old... The only bright spot in my evening was I was able to get another baby to take a pink. I didn't feel like working with them last night but I owe their mother to take good care of them.

Thanks everyone for your support.

Al

1st clutches in my opinion are the most stressful, the females body is possibly working out all the kinks etc. I have lost most of my 1st litters and had better success with the 2nd and 3rd ones. Perhaps the shock was just a bit to much for her. Really sad though

My findings are that the closely related B.armata are sexually mature in their 4th year, so she may have been a bit young. Also was she on a monthly feed before gravid. 3yr old fem B.armata are just touching 30cm.

That is so nasty - at least she birthed before dying.

She was on a 14 feeding schedule before she was gravid. I would give her a hopper size mouse, she had very good weight in August when I introduced the male. She was longer than 30 cm for sure. I will not send her to my zoo pathologist for a post mortem. I usually only do that for a unexplained death when disease (infectious) may be a factor. Since I cannot take preventative measures, a necropsy serves little purpose.
