I love finding obscure burrowing reptiles. We went driving roads the other night near my house and found what we first thought to be a Natal Black Snake (Macrelaps microlepidotus). Because Macrelaps has an entire anal shield, I have learnt to check the anal shield to see if its divided...which it was!!! A cool little Purple Glossed Snake (Amblyodipsas polylepis)!
I am gonna try keeping the snake to see if i can get him to eat.
He is very small and uncooperative so i didn't get a good full body pic.
Notice the divided anal in the first 2 pictures.
Incidently it was identified as A. polylepis (and not A. concolor) by upper labial count (I didn't feel like counting scale rows ).
