Dr Van Wyk is no longer with the Onderstepoort Bird and Exotic Animal Clinic but Dr Dorianne Elliott is. She is an absolute genius when it comes to reptiles as well as other exotics such as Monkeys, Birds etc. If it wasn't for her, I would have lost a rare and expensive monkey last month. Not only was it a tiny baby but it had a disease not normally found in monkeys and for which there are no previous case studies, literature or treatment protocol. Don't take chances with a sick animal, go directly to someone who knows what to do and Dr Elliott is that person!

Thanks REPTILE RESORT

Do you have a direct contact number for her or do we just phone Onderserpoort an ask for her?

where is Verseput?

Postby bradmiller » Wed Apr 16, 2008 3:41 pm

Dr Verseput - anyone know which Vet he is at now - The Village Vet where he was before has closed down :-(
You know, you can touch a stick of dynamite, but if you touch a venomous snake it’ll turn around and bite you and kill you so fast it’s not even funny.

Hi

Please be advised that some of the people on this list are not qualified vets but qualified herpetologists and the like. I have spoken to Dr Angelo Lambiris today and he enquired as to where I got his details from.

He asked that we please do not refer to him as a vet but said that he is a qualified herpetologist with 40 years of experience. He said that he has also lectured widely on the topic and has worked directly with many vets locally and abroad. He works on animals under the direct supervision of a qualified vet.

The reason for this is that he recently came under attack from conservation authorities as to why people were referring to him as a vet when he is not and they wanted to impose a 5 figure fine.

Kind regards
And God has Created every animal from water, of them are some creeping on their bellies, some walk on two legs, and some on four. God Creates what He wills, for sure God has Power over all things. (Noble Quran 24:45)

Dr Elliot at Onderstepoort has been my saviour for reptiles!
She really goes out of her way to help and gives the facts as they are, no rose coloured glasses, simply as it is, bad good and ugly!

Hi there,

I was at Reptilians in Midrand yesterday and they advised the following vet for my Green Iguana;

Craighall Veterinary Hospital
Mon-Fri 07h30 - 18h30
Saturday 08h00 - 12h00
Sun/Pub Hol 09h00 - 12h00 (surcharge)

Tel: 011 442 7361

Cnr Buckingham & Clarence Ave, Craighall Park

I'm going to be taking my Iguana for a full check up and will revisit this post if they are no good...

Hi guys

I have also found a vet in Edenvale. Sorry I don't know his name but he is a young Indian doctor and works at The Terrace Road Veterinary Hospital in Edenvale/Sebenza. Their phone number is 011 609-0477. The added bonus is that they are open from 7 am to 7 pm and not just a couple of hours in the morning and a couple of hours in the evening. They are open for a straight 12 hours which is a great help when you are in a panic to see a vet.

I took my frillies to him after I got them to check on the sex and also to see if they were in good health. He showed me how to check the sex - not that I would attempt to do so myself, and said my babies are fine specimens, He knew what he was talking about and gave me a lot of good advice - and the bonus was he didn't even charge me!!! How's that for service? He was genuinely interest in the frillies and had great fun playing with them while I was there.

Terrace road vet hospital in Edenvale is a brilliant vet practice. Dr Bhoola and Dr Behrens are both good with reptiles and other exotics! Great service and great prices! They are the only vet I know of building an exotic ward for all creepy crawlies!
