My latest addition

Today I took the burm out and when let her crawl around it looked like there was a bump in her throat but she was hissing a bit so don't no if that is normal for burms when they hiss? Also when she hisses it sounds as if water goes down her pipe or something and she "spits". Is this normal or should I take her to a vet?

She has a respiratory infection of sorts. You can try increasing her temperature and humidity and see if it goes away. A trip to the vet might not be a bad idea either.

Took my Burmese in to Dr M Verseput today, he checked her and pulled out of each nose shedding that had not been removed every time she sheds and said thats why she was breathing out her mouth. He even examined her lungs and said she seems all good and no RI :D .

Well at least that ended well. It is not something that happens that often.

What about the "spitting" you mentioned? That cannot just be from a blocked nose?

According to him snakes aren't clever and will try breath out their nose until in builds up pressure that it needs to breath out its mouth and with the all of a sudden burst of air coming out the mouth apparently sounds worse than what it really is. He told me to keep temperatures up for about two weeks if I suspect RI and if anything comes about he will give me some antibiotic to inject into her but at the moment he says shes all good.
