Armata at it again

Nice surprise this morning, male has already mated with other female - poor fella he was being dragged around the cage backwards

The one he mated with this morning was probably the wife that found out he had already mated to Mrs. X. To serve him right she dragged him around backwards!
Armata, just for interest sake: how long do adders of various species usually mate? Have you (or other members) ever seen it in the wild?

I have seen European adders (Vipera berus) coupled for up to four hours. This is followed by a period of mate-guarding which may last for several days and ensures single male paternity for that particular pair.
I have watched puffies mating for about 2 hours also on occassions with other males crawling over and around the mating pair.
I witnessed mating with armata in the wild and they were coupled for three hours with no other males present. I have also seen a female armata bite an approaching mail, quite savagely and she hung on for a second or so.
Have also seen this biting with B.caudalis and once with Vipera ammodytes.
