again...anyone keen to pickle mongoose? Any valid reason for your pickling...i am pretty sure doing scale counts for fun must get pretty boring using dead specimens.

I have always seen my neonate B.caudalis tail luring or "caudaling". Very cool to watch.
what the hell is wrong with me?

Haha - The whole pickling thing - you guys take me way to serious.. Inside joke between Dev and I and some others.

The ones I'm refering to are at the McGregor museum in the wet collection and were collected way before my time..

Cornuta specimens have been observed with the same behaviour.

Armata. The first one of those I see when I get back to SA, I'd have to think twice about it being a little Cerastes.

On the subject of caudal luring, our Saudi Puff adders often wriggle their tail if I place a live mouse in the tank and it walks out of range, or if they strike and miss (rare). It's very deliberate and certainly looks like the snake isdistracting attention away from the business end, a bit like Mohammed Ali used to do with outmatched oponents (wave right hand up in the air and thump him with a left hook). Bt brother has observed similar behaviour in specimens from Polokwane.
