It is not that difficult. You need to join a herp association. Once you have, each herp association has their own rules and regulations to follow.

You need to have a donor for a specific species you would like as they need to write the reptile off their keeping or catching permit and then you can apply for one.

Permits take about 15 working days to be processed and costs R50 per permit per year, or R100 for 2 years. The transport permit is also R50.

You need a permit and then each specimen is written in as an addendum. To update your permit does not cost more and then you need only apply for the transport permit.

If you apply to get the snakes from KZN it is much easier and you need an export permit from KZN as well as an import permit from Gauteng.
It is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Those who are afraid to ask are ashamed of learning.

There are two herp associations in Gauteng. The THA which is situated in Pretoria and the ERHA which is situated in Kempton Park. Ofcourse I would always recommend the THA though.

Depends what animals you want. The THA has rules which need to be followed. As well as Nat Con. If you are after a rare snake, or not easily breedable, you will possibly have to wait quite a while. Remember, you need a doner.
