SteveZi's Finds

SteveZi's Finds

Postby SteveZi » Fri Oct 31, 2014 8:34 pm

Thought i'd share some stuff I found today:
Lots of roadkill snakes, mainly skaapstekers and puff adders and somehow some idiot managed to kill a rooikat as well.

I caught this crossmarked snake on the road, it gave my leather glove a good bite!

My cat and this puffie had a staredown competition this afternoon.

I'll release them tomorrow and try/practice to take more natural looking photos.

What a pity.
That is an awesome photo of the puff adder, those eyes are gorgeous.

Thanks predator - I have to rethink my workflow when it comes to taking natural photos - I released the puffie this morning and it disappeared into the brush before I could even press a button...
oh well, next time.
Here is this morning's roadkill - boomslang

Please freeze the roadkills. The museums still want them. Even if its just for stomach contents or some DNA as long as it has not started decomposing.

That's very interesting @Bushviper - any interested parties must contact me, I have no problem collecting and keeping specimens for them.

I took this picture of the crossed whip snake showing it's nice big eye.

Oops I forgot you are the Cape. There it would be an offense to have even a dead non venomous snake in your possession. Pity because I think tons of scientific material will go to waste if it is not collected. Funny enough dead venomous species are not protected. Just confirm this with Cape Nature and get it in writing.

Today, after driving past three dead mole snakes, I decided to take this guy off the road - it had a LOT of bad attitude, but it was all worth it.
