I Need Help!!!

i've recently bought my first red-tail boa, as this is my first snake, I desperataly need help.

i've got her feeding and everything but now suddenly it looks like she breathing very rapidly, i've got her for 2 months now, and ive only noticed this yesterday (2008-03-30).

can anybody please help me with what this might be and if it is normal!

Is this when you hold her? When you're moving around near her tank?

Ok I'll say it again.

Is this when you're holding her? Or when you're moving around outside her tank? As babies they are still unsure of themselves and get frightened easily. If she is doing it when you're handling her or if she sees too much movement it may just be that she's getting irritated.

it is when i'm close to the tank and watching her, but she doesn't mind my taking her out and handling her. i'm just afraid it might be heat exhaustion or she might be cold or something...

Have you read any books on the care of boas?

What are your temp and humidity values?
Does she have a place to hide?
How big is your terrarium?

i do not have a hide box, but she hides under the eucalyptus that i use for a substrate. she will hide her entire body except for her head...

the temp is 28'c in the middle of the tank, and 30'c on the warm side.
the humidity stays between 65 and 70 percent.

Mine do it as well it's just an indication of stress I think if they are tentative around you you still gonna freak her out does she do a similar thing when you hold her just on a smaller scale.

i figured out what the problem was... i don't have a proper day night cycle, luckily i've implented one now, so I believe things will get better from now on...

it was very irregular, so can't tell you precisely. But what is the best? because i've 15/9, 14/10 and some people say 12/12...

I would say 15/9 in winter, if 15 is the night time hours, and 9 the day time. In summer I would go with an hour difference of 14/10.
