Re: Spider bite...

It really sounds like an infection from most probably a spider bite. Or even some tropical fly that laid eggs...(sorry!) I've seen and heard of this before, the two dots, the bubble and then the spreading. A topical cream, some cortisone / steroids even and antibiotics to prevent it from infecting t...

Re: THA Meeting October 2013 - Beauty Pageant

Hi Busbaby,
How do we go about entering? Are there any registration to be done before hand to book our entry spots? I would also like to know if one are able to enter more than one species?
What a great idea: To show off your most precious!! :-)

Re: What is going on here?

Definitely been driven over by a car. I might be mistaken, but having a closer look, the shape of the head just doesn't look all that right... I agree that there must have been at least a spinal injury, it makes sense, because the snake is trying to escape and it seems like its body is not going whe...

Re: Showing off

Sorry, I have to add... I am misting and leaving the door open for extra ventilation, now 3 days after replacing the substrate. It just seems that the dense dusty smell doesn't go away.

Re: Showing off

Hi Michael, Substrate is a bit of a problem at the moment. I'm using a mix bag of grind peach pits and something else, got it at Reptillians in Randpark. The first bag was ok, it seems to be not too hard and I could scoop out the worst poo without having to replace all the substrate. But this second...

Showing off

Hi All, Just showing off with my Paulie (Cal King). She is doing so well. I've taken all of your advice on my previous posts to heart and this is just a tribute and gratitude for all the help and advice I have received from all of you. She shed last week and I measured 68cm. She is now 9mnths old an...

Re: OVER FEEDING?

Hi, So last night I fed her one weaned mouse. At first she seems to be reluctant. Having constricted it, she almost looked like she didn't know what to do with it. For a second I thought, maybe the mouse was too big for her. But then she started feeding, no problem getting it down. And behold, she a...

Re: To all Potential Venomous snake enthusiasts

Thank you so much for pulling this thread out in the open again. It's like the wake up call that, I believe, most newbies snake keepers like myself needed to hear. I have read a lot on this site about permits / legal factors and the necessity for husbandry / handling courses, but some of you here ha...

Re: OVER FEEDING?

Speaking from a boa perspective and not about smaller snakes. I feed every one to two weeks a couple of mice. I keep it small to avoid to fast growth and ensure that she's always hungry - I had cases that she rejected food in the past, which may have related to overfeeding. Me too was under the imp...

Re: OVER FEEDING?

@Jamster, thank you. She is healthy... she is doing everything textbook style :-) I fed her again last night, it's been 6 days after her last feed. She took two fuzzies and was begging for more! Unfortunately (Fortunately) I ran out of stock, but will stock up again this weekend. She has been feedin...

Re: OVER FEEDING?

@Blake - thank you for the reply. Good advice about the colder months. @Bushviper - your reply is very informative, I truly appreciate it. I will change her over within the next couple of months (80cm) to once a week and I will start feeding her weaned mice.(what's referred to as jumpers?) It is sca...

OVER FEEDING?

Hi, I am of the opinion that if my Cal King snake isn't hungry, she won't eat. So I've been feeding her constantly every 4 days. She is now about 60cm in length, 8 months. Her shedding is perfect and she posesses a certain level of tenacity, which I adore in her! I handle her about twice a week, she...
