ID scorpion please

Postby Chameleon Company » Mon Jun 17, 2013 9:01 pm

Good day all.

Please ID this species.

It was found in Southern Gauteng (Vanderbijlpark) together with Opistophthalmus pugnax with is a very murky, muddy looking species.

And yes they are all on permit.

Looks like O.glabrifrons.
Not sure where the taxonomical changes are with this Genus, but that is what I would guess it is.

Thanks Ceratogyrus.

I have considered O.glabrifrons but this locality is well out of its range.

There is no real data base not book that represents species accounts and this is problematic.

I have been reading up online and one web site mentioned that the scorpion in the pic may well be Opistophthalmus pugnax but a light yellow colour because it recently moulted.

Are there any people that can confirm this? what are your thoughts?

I would have expected pugnax to have dark pincers from what I remember.
Will ask around quick...

Just spoke to someone and it is O.glabrifrons, but he says that the locality is all wrong.
Maybe go give your opinion on the Scorpions of Southern Africa facebook page if you like. I posted the pic there.
