Dwarf genetic stripe retic availability and going price.

Postby Reynard » Tue Jan 21, 2014 7:41 pm

Hi all. I've been thinking about this for quite a while and I've finally decided to make work of it. Been dreaming about one of these for years.

If anyone could tell me who breeds these and what the going price for them are I would greatly appreciate it. Anywhere in SA I'm willing to drive to. Thanks :)

I know Graeme Lotter had a pair for sale, last time I asked it was 12k for the pair.

I think he still has them, but I could be wrong.

I think there are only only 4 or 5 pairs in the country.

They cost around $450 each for males and $650 for females so it will be $1100 per pair for babies. Adding import duties of 14% and freight, quarantine, permit, vet inspection and all the other costs they will be around $1500 for the pair. At the current exchange rate (buying dollars at R11 to the dollar) they are not that cheap R16500.

If Graeme was selling yearlings for R12000 that is a bargain. Grab them.

I could bring in a pair if you wanted. Depending on the dollar exchange rate they should end up at about the figures quoted above. They might be bred locally this year but that will only prove to be anything by the end of the year.

Thanks Boaboy. But I am specifically looking for the purple albino.

Thanks a lot BV. I'll get back to you. Will try to budget for them in the next 8 - 10 months.

Cool, I was saying that I might have some baby Genetic Stripes at the end of the year if all goes well. Not sure on what type of Albino the male is but I might be lucky and get a Purple albino out, one can only hope!

A baby purple albino genetic striped female will cost $4750 and a male will be $3950 so a pair will be around R114 000 for the pair with the current exchange rate and import duties. Add 10% for permits, quarantine and freight and you are looking at a bill of around R125 000. Maybe you should think again about when you plan on buying them.

If all goes according to plan I might have albino tiger sunfire genetic striped dwarfs this year. They will cost a quarter of million a pair because they dont have import duties and other costs added. Its a bargain.

I have no idea what I will do with them if they have babies. Obviously keep a pair but I doubt I will ever sell them locally.

BV I don't plan on buying a purple albino genetic stripe pair. I want a purple albino female and a male genetic stripe.

That would be a waste. Unless the female is a het genetic stripe and the male is het albino you are just producing double hets which have a low value but will produce high value babies. They will also no longer be classified as dwarfs due to the mainland gene added.
