Python natalensis cannibalism?

Python natalensis cannibalism?

Postby zululand » Thu Mar 11, 2010 10:41 am

Hi,

I've just had a call from a mate who put a small 1.8m python in with a +/- 3.5m just as an overnight stop before releasing them the next day. He got there in the morning and the smaller one was missing! As far as I can tell there is no way out of the enclosure they were kept in so the question is did the big one scoff the small one?

Anyone out there heard of P natalensis eating other snakes?

Does the big snake look fatter than the night before ?
I may be schizophrenic, but at least I have each other...

Apparently the big guy looks bigger and he shed last night. I would personally still go with the "it got out" theory unless there is someone out there that has seen this happen before.

Apologies for the typo in the subject line!!

I think it's a possability, I've seen snakes that are not known for cannabilism turn into "cannibals", snakes are opportunistic and this happens at times.
