Roadtrip!

Roadtrip!

Postby Durban Keeper » Mon Aug 22, 2011 8:02 pm

Over the course of the past 2 weeks myself & a friend, Toby, traveled throughout South Africa, doing over 6000km's worth of driving & seeing most of this countries beautiful provinces. It's a roadtrip we planned over a year ago & although not a 'herping trip' per say, I still had a scratch with another mate & turned up these species during the two days spent in Bloemfontein.

Aparallactus capensis - Cape Centipede Eater

Lycophidion capense - Common Wolf Snake

Dasypeltis scabra - Rhombic Egg Eater

Psammophylax tritaeniatus - Striped Skaapsteker

Scelotes mirus - Montane Dwarf Burrowing Skink

Trachylepis capensis - Cape Skink

Pachydactylus capensis - Cape Thick Toed Gecko

uroplectes triangulifer – Scorpion

Very nice photos!

That P. capensis look very similar to the Karoo specimens Ive seen. But then again Ive seen a very similar coloured one in Kgalagadi.
It think they can vary in a very small area according to the immediate location (IMO).

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks chaps. Right you are Fooble. That gecko was one of two we found. And those skaapies had me jumping up and down like a child when we found them. Wolf I did a bit more scratching around, but when my girlfriend met up with us halfway along our journey that all came to an end. Thanks for the compliments guys.

Nice one bud. Looks like it was an awesome trip.
