Is that not blatant animal abuse? Oh wait, the SPCA does not see reptiles as animals but rather creepy crawlies. These people should be prosecuted. If it was a cat or a dog the whole of SA would have been up in arms. Seriously p!ssed...

It's a pity no one could rescue the snake!

That is wrong, they got the snake outside, and then killed it, it is unexcepptable. Does not seem like that was the only option, they could have taken the washing machine outside in a bush or something suitable, and then leave it there for a day or two and come back to see if the snake left...

I actually think they would have been in much less danger if they kept the snake in the machine and looked properly for someone to remove it safely, but they'd much rather take it out and shoot it .. sad indeed

Personally in situations like these I feel the snake should have got a bite in. I know thats really wrong but its how I feel. I think it might be the only way people will learn to leave the animal alone and rather find an expert to remove it.

@Rodwraylva, come on, even the SPCA would have helped. If you're going to live in that area, well known for snakes, you should be prepared. killing it should only be a total last resort. It was stuck in the machine, the people were safe. I just feel it as being completely unfair. Looking just a bit harder could have saved a beautiful snake.

They could have left it in there over night if they had to while looking for someone to remove it. Personally I don't accept that excuse. And taking the machine out and tipping it over to shoot the snake or whatever they did could have turned out nasty for them in any case. Mamba's aren't exactly known for being slow lazy animals.

I can not agree more with Groenslang and Hoss. I would love to see the reaction if I do that to a kitten. Difference is that I respect cats even though I can not stand them, unlike these ignorant, narrow minded individuals.

Hoss, they got the snake out and killed it, yea, I agree it is unexceptable, that is like saving a child from a fire, and saying I could not find the parents so I killed the kid... What idiocy is running this world :'(
