This morning during my usual "snake room cheks" before school I found my pair of juvenile Carpet Pythons dead in there cages:( last night was an extremely cold night and we have had no electricity since tuesday night due to cable theft. Words can't describe how terrible it feels to loose your favorite animals.

And I found one of my Corns dead when I got home from work yesterday, he was about 13 years old though.

My red tailed boa died two days ago....I have no idea why...he had heat, was eating, no signs of illness...
It really sucks when one of your animals dies man. But we all going to die someday. Sorry for your loss buddy.

I wish they would realise what cable theft does. I love the pics where they get burnt or shocked to death. This is another reason why.

Ek het ook my een RTB (3) verloor die winter. Dit was geen aangename ondervinding nie. Sy het ook geen tekens van siekte gewys nie. Ons het net by die hok haar gekry besig met spiersametrekkings en sy het baie gegaap asof sy nie suurstof kry nie. Geen snotterigheid was teenwoordig nie en dit het gelyk of haar koordinasie aangetas is. Miskien kan iemand dalk vir my se wat hulle dink was verkeerd. Hitte en vog alles was normaal. Die ander twee Boas wat saam met haar was makeer niks.

So sorry to hear Jason. I think with winter being rather unpredictable this year a lot of snakes will not see summer.

That's a bit higher up and hence colder.
Still I think that even a tropical snake should be able to handle some cold for a short while, as they are poikilotherm and ectotherm.
Anyway I think we should look at prevention measures against coldness fatalities. Electricity doesn't seem to be reliable in the New South Africa, so one needs to look into alternatives or a hazard back-up.

First sorry Jason, nothing that can be said can make it better. But still we have to try!

@uncutdiamonds I agree and a proper UPS can be a DIY project or you can opt for a proper 2100W UPS that should be able to handle your snake room for around 2 days or so, depending on your load.
