Temple viper help

Postby Jayweee » Sun Mar 02, 2014 10:58 am

Hi guys

I recently acquired a Temple viper, and I was wondering if anyone here has any tips for me.

I'm currently keeping her in a 45x30cm Exo terra cage:
Temps are between 28-32;
I have put a soaked towel above the mesh to keep the humidity in;
I put water(1cm deep) as the 'substrate' to keep humidity up;
Today I am putting a little computer fan in the cage to help with air circulation
And I will be feeding her geckos every two weeks.

Any advice will be highly appreciated!

Tried to upload pics but it says they are invalid.

Thanks
Jason

Hi Jason,

Be careful with that computer fan, a constant breeze could make your snake sick.

On the few 'care sheets' available on the net, they recommend a fan to keep the air circulating and to keep it clean. Any other ways of accomplishing this without the use of a fan?

I would personally use cocoa nut husk with a good wetting once a day instead of water. Remove the towels as that is blocking your circulation and watch where you place your fan as it cause a draft. Get a humidity meter and just keep a watch.

Hope that helps

I agree; get a hygrometer if you don't have one already and keep an eye on the humidity, add water as required. Also, remove the towel, or leave one half uncovered. If you are set on using the fan, perhaps only run it for a few minutes a couple of times a day, that should be more than enough.

I've been helping a friend keep his for the last two years and it's pretty simple. If you got her from the show you can call me and I'll help you out. The fan is a very bad idea. Remember anyone can write a care-sheet, whether they've kept the species or not :)

Louis.
