Jameson's mamba capture sequence - Angola

Good afternoon everyone,

I was called out this morning to a demining site here in Soyo Northern Angola to capture a Jameson's mamba Dendroaspis jamesoni jamesoni which was spotted in a mango tree by the demining team working in the area. On arrival at the site a 2nd mamba was seen in another mango tree about 30m from the 1st. A South African college took pictures of the whole capture sequence which I thought I would share here. Unfortunately the 2nd mamba disappeared (as they do) once I had climbed the tree and after much chopping of palm frons and mango branched had to laugh it off as the one that got away. The snake I did manage to capture is the biggest Jameson's I have captured in Soyo to date. I have not measured him yet as he is deep in the blue and I do not want to damage his skin any further but I will say he is at least 2m





















I will take some better pics of the mamba once he sheds out.

Such a pity these are not established in the hobby. Glad you manged to save another one.

I wish they were as well. They saw another one today at the same location but it did not hang around and it's too far for me to drive out unless the snake is clearly visible.

Today I went out to release these two Jameson's mambas as well as some other reptiles captured during the week. I released the mambas on the side of a hill near a Bee eater colony in case they needed a snack. The close up pics are of the smaller specimen which I thought was the better looker of the two snakes and also has more black coloration.
