My observations :
Harpactirella (dwarf baboon spiders), Trap door spiders, other species of Opisthacanthus (besides O. asper) are NOT listed as TOPS.
This is quite possibly an old list, if someone has a revised list, please advise and I will update this post. I'm under the impression that Augacephalus species have been added to the protected list.

Hi, ICM.

I have several species of spiders in my collection, I know I'm not allowed to keep baboons, but what about my Velvet spider?
I've also started searching for bird dropping spiders, flower crab spiders and the ant spider thingy...

What should happen if I bought a few of the banned species of scorps before that list was compiled??

I'm not sure whats going on with that list..

Velvet spiders are just fine. As far as I know, if you bought a banned scorpion before the ban, you should also be fine, especially since you probably only have "this and that", rather than a whole garage full of them. I really doubt anything that isn't particularly sought-after in the pet trade will ever make the list.

So, are all Pterinochilus spiders illegal to keep, like OBT's etc. Thanx

Yes, all Pterinochilus species are illegal to keep. Even P.murinus.

Augacephalus species are also illegal because they were originally from the Pterinochilus genus.

I've done a little research on this topic as I have 2 Baboon Spiders in my collection (GBT {Golden Starburst} - P. Murinus & An African Feather-Leg (Stromatopelma Calceatum)!! As long as they're captive bred they r perfectly legal, unless on the IUCN Red List 4 Endangered Species (critically endangered)!? Point being, any human influence on the wild population is strictly prohibited!?

There is no distinction made between captive bred and wild caught animals.
It is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Those who are afraid to ask are ashamed of learning.

Your Pterinochilus is illegal to keep without a permit, as it is a Pterinochilus. Stromatopelma are not covered by the permit system as they are not found in SA, so they are perfectly legal to keep without a permit.
