wild captive chameleon

Postby Sonjat » Thu Sep 08, 2011 9:24 am

hi, will a wild chameleon that was captive for 5/6 months be able to go back to the wild without any problems?? her food was put loose in her cage so she can "hunt" them herself but the last few months they were put in a cup so that her eating habit could be monitored to make sure she eats ok after the winter.
if she is released now will she go back to her normal hunting methods or will she be expecting a cup with food in somewhere??
please let me know what you think!! thanks!!

Yes it will be fine so long as you release it in the relative area it came from.

Yes. You can also put the chameleon in an aviary which is placed over some trees in the area where you intend releasing it. From there you can leave the door open and the chameleon can find its own way out. That is often the best idea. Its called a soft release. Make sure it is the same habitat and area that it came from.
