Postby Dragon » Tue Nov 08, 2005 7:08 am

My ratsnake laid eggs. What do I do now? She laid one yesterday, a dud and this morning another one in the moss. It looks healthy. Must I take it out or wait and see if she lay's more? Help please :!:

How many did she lay? What size is she? What type of rat snake is it?

I assume she lay the eggs in a nesting box? Once you're sure she's laid everything, remove the eggs and put them in an incubator. Remember not to rotate the eggs, as you'll drown the embrio.

Also make sure she's lain all her eggs. I think this is your taiwanese. If it is, check her carefully. They are prone to eggbinding.

How many has she lain? Eggbinding means that a snake retains the egg. They are incabable of passing it naturally. Sometimes calcium, exercise and soaking helps. In more extreme cases the snake has to be taken to the vet, and sometimes eggs have to be surgically removed.

Just check her when she finished laying, and make sure she doesn't have any eggs left inside her.

Dragon, if a rat snake takes more than a day to lay her eggs, you should watch her carefully even more so when it's a Taiwanese. If you feel her body through and there's still eggs, you should take some steps. Have a look at the "eggbound cornsnake" topic. The eggs already laid should be incubated.

Ok put polystyrene on the outside of the fish tank, all over then fill the tank 1/4 with water, then put 2 bricks on the side.. Then get the temps right with the fish tank heater

Dragon, I would be more worried about the female that laid just one egg, than about how to build an incubator, she has to have more eggs inside, she would'nt just develop one egg. If you leave her like that she will die.

I agree with Dentech on this one. You need to feel and loook if she still has lumps in her. Get some powder calcium and mix it with some water. Get her to drink that, tube her if needs be.

Do you have a vet close by perhaps, then he could help.
