Help needed with thermostat wiring

Postby Hoss » Sun Jun 16, 2013 4:00 pm

Hi

I'm busy setting up some thermostat controllers for my snakes heating requirements but I'm getting a little stuck on the section for the wiring of the load that the controllers will carry.

Here is a pdf of the manual for the controllers that I'm installing:

http://www.coolsense.co.za/pshop/attach ... achment=59

The wiring diagrams show two models, the EVK421 and the EVK402, mines the EVK402.

I've spoken to a couple electricians but I just don't have confidence in their answers. They don't seem 100% sure when they answer me.

So my questions are; do I bring the live wire (220v) in to point 1 and then run live to my heat emitter (a 60w ceramic heat emitter) from point 2? or point 3?
I assume my neutral does not get connected anywhere here? The thermostat is purely just a switch, therefore neutral has nothing to do with it?
Neutral will run directly from the power source to the heat emitter?

I'm not using an alarm so point 5 is of no consequence to me.

Which model do you have?

Sorry I suddenly saw now you did mention that. *facepalm*

Ok connect the live from the supply on terminal 8 or 9 to terminal 1.
Connect the neutral from the supply on terminal 8 or 9 directly to one terminal of the ceramic heater.
Connect terminal 2 to the other terminal of the ceramic heater.
Done.

The manual doesn't seem to mention the sensor, I'm assuming it has one and you know how to connect it.

Thanks a lot froot, appreciate the response. The units did come with probes and I assume that should be connected to terminals 10 and 11.

Yes use terminals 1 and 2 as a normally open contact. Also the thermocouple is polarity dependant.
