Banded Snouted Cobra Eggs.

Postby Pythonodipsas » Thu Nov 18, 2010 1:57 pm

My trusty female banded snouted has been producing eggs for at least 8 years. Last year she gave me 50 eggs - being the most she ever gave me.

Today she was laying again and so far 39 eggs (37 in picture) and at least one more on its way. She is an old girl and looks pretty beaten.

Mating on 31 August 2010 (they mated several times before and after this).

This female is getting old and for the first time ever she was slightly egg-bound. Last week she shed her skin and did not lay eggs. She has always laid her eggs immediately after shedding. I waited a few days then gave her calcium orally. This didn't work either so 'Bushviper' suggested a warm bath which I gave her last night. The warm bath must have helped because this morning she had laid most of the eggs.

Thanks for looking.

Craig

Congrats. I'm glad she finally laid. Best of luck incubating them.

I hope you are already planning on keeping back baby females. She is not going to this for ever.

Thanks for the comments everyone.

@BV - Yes she is past her prime so I will keep a pair or three of babies behind.

What is the average life span of a snouted cobra?

Thanks ViperLover!

@Froot, I am not sure, but I think they can reach 15 years easily.

Update: I ended up with 22 eggs - the ones that went bad were laid in water (After soaking the female, she laid eggs in her plastic container which had a little water in it - see in picture above).

ANYWAY they are hatching after 61 days. I have cut windows in the un-slit eggs and they all seem healthy and alive.
