Possible Ovulation Yes / No

Possible Ovulation Yes / No

Postby rolandslf » Fri Aug 19, 2011 7:16 am

A while ago I posted on my possible Dumerils Boas Lock.
I have not really seen them since June when I cooled things and stopped feeding them.
Well yesterday I saw my Female Dumeril, and despite having only had three jumbo rats to eat since the middle of June, she has almost doubled in girth.
The male has remained about the same girth. This is also the first time I have ever seen the Female bigger in girth than the male.
The reason for my query, roughly in the middle of her body she seems to be particularly thick which I think could be ovulation.
I would like the panels thoughts on this.

Excuse the bad pics, but I have had such bad luck with this girl and babies, that I was hesitant to even take the pics, I don't want to disturb her at all.

That looks promising. Handle with care in future.

Thanks Arno. As I said, I don't even want to touch her. I will update on a monthly basis and see what happens.

Hey Andrew, nothing . The so and so even moved out of the area about two weeks later.
Tjokkie, I sure hope there is success.

People on overseas Forums are trying to tell me that she is too small to breed. I will try to get a pic of her stretched out.

I'd agree she looks thick - it's either that or fat.

Well Folks, when I got home from work on Friday afternoon, she was fairly tightly coiled up on the one heat pad and I got a nice pic of her, swelling and all.

Uncutdiamonds - definitely not fat, she normally gets a Jumbo Rat every 14 days, but has only had 3 Jumbo Rats in the last 3 months because I have hed them in a semmi sort of Brumation.

I definetely hope it's going to be little ones! The distribution of the "thickness" should be revealing.

Yes, she has a huge hide box on the other end of the enclosure.

Thanks Byron. Your opinion as I have said before is highly valued. Especially as you breed Dumerils year on year.
What size is she going to be in January, that is still 5 months away, am I right when I say that she should give birth around then.

They look imminent for ages, don't necessarily grow much more. And she may drop earlier than January anyway.
When you find babies in the cage, you will know she was gravid and has dropped. ;)
